Case Study: Fire Alarm Upgrade – North Howard Street, Radius Housing, Belfast
Project Overview: Radius Housing appointed Atlas World to upgrade the existing fire alarm system at North Howard Street. The works involved a full replacement of old equipment and an extension of domestic detectors within flats to LD2 standard, ensuring improved life safety coverage.
All works were carried out in a live residential environment, requiring careful planning to maintain protection for all tenants while minimising disruption.
System Design & Components
Upgrade of the fire alarm system across a 50-flat social housing scheme, enhancing reliability, coverage, and tenant safety throughout the building.
The upgraded system was designed to enhance safety and compliance throughout flats and communal areas.
Key elements included:
• Addressable Fire Alarm System – replacement of outdated control panels, detectors and sounders.
• Domestic Detectors – additional smoke and heat detectors installed within flats to improve early warning and detection.
• System configured for phased commissioning, allowing live monitoring to remain operational at all times.
