Projects
Case Study: Solar PV & Battery Storage Installation – Hetherington Painting & Building Contracts, Dungannon
- Client:Hetherington Painting & Building Contracts
- Location: Dungannon
- Project Scope: Installation of 20kW Solar PV & 10kWh Battery Storage
- Sector: Commercial
- Systems Installed: Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Project Completion/Duration: November 2024
Project Overview
Hetherington Painting & Building Contracts appointed Atlas World to design, supply, and install a 20kW solar PV system with integrated 10kWh battery storage at their Dungannon facility.
The project formed part of a wider focus on energy efficiency and cost reduction, aiming to reduce reliance on grid electricity and improve overall sustainability.
System Design & Components
The systems were designed to maximise solar energy capture and integrate seamlessly with the building’s electrical infrastructure.
Key elements included:
- Solar PV System delivering 20kW of renewable energy, designed to optimise output across the building’s roof space.
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with 10kWh capacity to store excess solar energy, allowing the client to use more self-generated power and reduce peak-time consumption.

Challenges Faced
- Roof layout and orientation required careful planning to maximise PV output.
- Integrating the BESS safely into the existing electrical system while meeting compliance standards.
Approach & Coordination
Atlas World implemented a detailed installation plan, coordinating with on-site teams to ensure safe and efficient installation of both PV panels and battery storage. The system was commissioned and tested to operate seamlessly, allowing maximum energy capture and storage from day one.
Outcome
The completed installation delivers reduced energy consumption and costs, while improving the client’s carbon footprint.
The integrated 10kWh BESS allows the facility to fully utilise generated solar energy, increasing self-sufficiency and efficiency.
Compliance Focus
All works were carried out in accordance with:
• MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accreditation for renewable energy installations
• BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IET Wiring Regulations)
Atlas World’s accredited engineers ensured full testing, certification, and documentation, providing long-term compliance and safety for the client.
